Pressurized liquid extraction of brewer’s spent grain: Kinetics and crude extracts characterization

In this study, extraction yield of valuable compounds from brewer’s spent grain (BSG) using pressurized liquid (PLE) was investigated varying temperature, solvent type, and flow rate at a constant pressure. The results were compared with Soxhlet extractions the total phenolic (TPC), flavonoid (TFC), antioxidant activity (AA), reducing sugars (RS), (TRS) as indices. highest PLE 20.1 wt%, 120 °C, 2 mL/min ethanol to water volume ratio 0.5, 10 MPa. TPC, TFC, AA content favored by water/ethanol temperature increase. obtained °C 4 achieving 9944, 4769 4096 µmol TE/100 g BSG extract, respectively. capable present high yields maintaining RS TRS in matrix. addition, defatted compressed propane before PLE, showing that is highly efficient recovering lipid fraction BSG. demonstrated great potential different EtOH/Water conditions for obtaining bio-compounds crude extract expressive biological activity.
